Back in Time, Time Theft seen four years later : Time Theft was a project for BCNProducció/10

Time Theft BCNproduccio/10

The notion of stolen time, various makings of narrative via montage in cinema, accumulation of "visual data" and making lists.
Film as the apparatus to deliver time based, re-constructed, re-narrated "visual contents" that become what R.Barthes calls The Third Meaning.

The film uses Barcelona's dark heart and memory in ruins, mixing far past and immediate past based on W.Benjamin notions about the Angel of History and of the use of juxtaposed contents.

Edited highlighting structures of montage and a propagandistic narrative used for brain wash, political propaganda and the altering of perception techniques, repetition and the subliminal induced ..

Time Theft was presented in a multidimensional way, as an installation, a publication, a fragment of a novel, a silent film, a soundtrack on a tape and a live performance.

At the chore of the work was a questioning of the construction of narratives to produce a sort of History for the means of manipulation and control.

Based in the real repressive tactics to manipulated data and facts and edit those out and specially erasing all sort of images, accounts, existences including the peoples that are still buried in unknown graves, victims of the fascist Franco regime.

The piece it self was inspired on an archivist procedure and its method of compiling data and the practice of constructing Lists (as in W. Benjamin)

The Screening of the Film was set up in an Installation like a set or environment recreating the context of the interior of a empty church as if a political party, was making a Film Screening on a Church (with all implications and references related to Barcelona's Civil War events) with heaps of newspapers and a deconstructed barricade made of found discarded elements of the main space.

The red paint, meaning (in a decorative concession to the naturalist display) a certain metaphor of blood shed and the Catalan blood of the four bars of her flag.

Esther Planas performing the role of Agent E 2162 as a double agent provocateur, during a revolution and civil war, reminding us of Breton's Nadja who questions us: Who am I??, activating lost memories and situations of control, power and punishment.

The film containing images taken by her during a whole "derive" around the Raval area, plus many just taken from youtube finds on net derives.

Delivered as if on a stream of conscience by the film it self, as a neutral apparatus containing all sort of simultaneous images as a detritus of constant capitalist events, its ruins and ghost.
